WORK SAMPLES

Ayala specializes in the junior market category for ready to wear garments with domestic production based in Mexico, and the lingerie & athletic wear markets for import production based in China for brands such as, FOREVER 21, DOLLS KILL, and WINDSOR. She also has extensive experience working on the missy market category with mass production for retailers including, but not limited to ROSS, BURLINGTON, and TJ-MAXX.

At the end of the summer season, the buyer would outline the essence of the lingerie that they would like to develop for the next SP/SU season. In a matter of a week I would collect fabrics, trims, and sketch my CADs to present in a buyer meeting for their final design selections. After, I would create technical packages for all of the selected designs to send out to China for proto samples to begin the fitting process.

Tech packs are compiled immediately after the buyers confirm their design selections. I include all essential design information and send out a reference garment for the garment manufacturers to follow for specs.

Next to follow is the PP process-this process continues until the buyer confirms fit, lab dips, and fabric quality. For lingerie with this specific buyer approval of a TOP sample could take up to 3 months. (image shown is from ‘22 season delivery)

DOLLS KILL

On occasion while working with Dolls Kill I would receive a request to develop graphics for their next themed market delivery. Usually, they would develop theme boards for me to review as a reference for the type of graphic art they would want. In the past I have both sketched by hand, scanned, and processed artwork in Photoshop to come up with graphic work, as well as have sketched in Illustrator and edited in Photoshop. It all depends on your speed, process, and ability to make the artwork look good.

All other garments that I designed for Dolls Kill were created with domestic sewing and processing based in Mexico in mind. They only ordered specialty items to be developed in correspondence with monthly trend boards. Typically, their P.O.’s were small unit orders of 120 items; a 45:45:30 breakdown for S,M,L. And when they booked plus orders it was an even smaller unit order of 90 items; an even 30:30:30 breakdown for 1X, 2X, 3X. Dolls Kill bought with the intention of catering to big cultural zeitgeist moments such as the season two drop of HBO’s Euphoria, the Kortney Kardashian and Travis Scott love story, and the first major festival season since the 2020 lock down. Usually, they would give me new trend boards 2 to 3 months in advance to design the most cost effective and simplest sewn imitation garment, communicate with the pattern maker, cut a proto sample, source final fabric and trim, check inventory before placing a P.O, getting the final garment approval to send out the marker, and making a TOP sample with vendor and care labels attached to send out to the buyer before the merchandise delivery date.
